Well, summer is almost here on the Gulf Coast of Texas. It is time to mulch for the upcoming hot period. I just mulched the permanent plantings: papaya, citrus & herbs with partially decomposed chicken mulch. The available nitrogen will not be lost to vaporization and the mulch will break down slowly and preserve the soil’s moisture content. It also looks good! We just got our first soaking rain of the year, so let’s hope for a fertile spring!
