The Lovely and Tasty Artichoke.
It’s almost March and the winter weather is still with us here in the usually balmy Houston, Texas area. Today is beautiful and warm but last week was cold and rainy. The forecasters called for SNOW earlier in the week. Fortunately we saw none here at the lab. The multiple freezes took its toll on a lot of the plants here at the lab, but we soldier on, waiting for spring.
There are big changes coming to the lab and we will keep you updated as soon as we can.
Another blistering Houston summer is finally behind us and the lab is looking good. The cool fall weather is here and we are so grateful! Thought we would show you a few pictures of the lab today.
Well, summer is almost here on the Gulf Coast of Texas. It is time to mulch for the upcoming hot period. I just mulched the permanent plantings: papaya, citrus & herbs with partially decomposed chicken mulch. The available nitrogen will not be lost to vaporization and the mulch will break down slowly and preserve the soil’s moisture content. It also looks good! We just got our first soaking rain of the year, so let’s hope for a fertile spring!
Thanks for visiting our new blog. We are trying to keep up with a lot of work and update this blog at the same time so the postings may be infrequent. (However the intrepid webmaster loves to snap photos of the lab, so more often than not, there will be pictures.)
There may be some tips and tricks to take to your own garden posted here. Kevin appears on the radio Tuesday mornings around 7am on 650 AM, so tune in and give a listen.

The Permaculture Design lab is looking great. We went out and took some nice shots to share with you.
